Connect OpenRouter

  1. Create an account and a key at OpenRouter. Confirm balance, limits and your account’s routing policies.
  2. Browse the model catalog and choose a model with tool support; check images if you need screenshots.
  3. In Browser Mate, open Settings → LLM Model and select OpenRouter.
  4. Copy the full identifier from the catalog into the model field, including the provider prefix, such as google/…. Do not copy just the commercial name or an abbreviated suggestion.
  5. Keep https://openrouter.ai/api/v1/chat/completions, the fixed endpoint.
  6. Enter the full key in the sk-or-v1-… format, save and test the connection. The test can consume balance.
  7. Start with a summary without actions and confirm the model shown on the receipt.

OpenRouter is an intermediary between the extension and the providers that make the models available. Review its routing and retention rules. The runtime contains a fallback model for OpenRouter; the provider/model recorded in the result may differ from the first requested model when that route is used.

Do not use a direct Google or Anthropic key with this provider: you need the OpenRouter key.

On model errors, verify the full ID in the catalog. On 429 or unavailability, check quotas and the model’s conditions, even when it is advertised as free. “Free” does not mean without limits.

For Gemini, follow the Google guide. For context and data handling, see Privacy.
